4-hour Group: Big Bowls

$160.00 CAD Sale Save

Are you comfortable centering and shaping a couple pounds of clay on the wheel, and ready to attempt something bigger? In this one-day, 4-hour intermediate level class we'll be throwing nothing but big bowls together. Wide low serving bowls, deep fruit bowls, tall elegant ones on a narrow foot. You name it! You'll see several demonstrations on the wheel and get lots of time to try your hand under the guidance of the instructor. Come learn and practice in an intimate group environment for a few hours without the pressure to produce.

The fee includes all required tools, unlimited clay, and a mid-afternoon drink + snack. Not included is the finishing and firing of any pots. Students who wish to finish and fire the bowls they throw are welcome to bring their own throwing bats to later transport leatherhard pots to their workspace for finishing.

Classes are taught by Kate Husted and Anna-Lise Schmidt, both of them with many years of experience as potters and teachers. You'll find the instructor assigned to each class named in the drop-down menu when making your selection. In the case of illness or other unforeseen circumstances, you may have one or the other as a last-minute substitute.

INSTRUCTORS

Kate Husted

Kate is a big fan of the details and loves getting lost in precision work. When teaching, she works to find just the right words to convey the subtleties of timing and movement that wheel-throwing requires, and gets a thrill from seeing her students' eyes widen with sudden understanding. She began practicing wheel-throwing in 2009, and teaching in 2019.

Anna-Lise Schmidt

Anna-Lise is drawn to clay as a medium because of its multifaceted process, from designing and testing to the physical preparation and forming. Her work explores mark making, repetition and pattern, and the way it interacts with form. She graduated from Emily Carr University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2013, and has been teaching in studios across Calgary ever since.
